Fruits Basket is an anime that I watched recently. I had watched this before when I was younger but never finished. I was excited to see it on Hulu.
Fruits Basket follows Tohru Honda who recently lost her mother and now is living in a tent on her own. She is found by Yuki Sohma who is her classmate. He invites her to live them so she can have a place to stay. She ends up living with Yuki, Kyo, and Shigure Sohma. While she is living with them she learns to their family secret. When a Sohma is hugged by someone of the opposite sex, they turn into an animal from the Chinese zodiac.
She soon learns that there are other Sohma members that have this curse. While living with them, she learns the hardships each member has and how the curse of their animal spirit has affected them. Tohru helps each one of them out just by being herself. She shows them love and encouragement. She is also there to a friend to them whenever they need it. While she is helping them, they are also helping her in return. She has more friends and a new family in her life.
I really enjoyed watching this show a lot. This has a bit of comedy, romance, drama, and family secrets. There is also a lot of trauma that members of the Sohma family goes through. You will see some emotional and physical abuse in this show. Overall it is comedic, but it does have some of these instances of trauma. If that triggers you at all, maybe this is one to skip.
I found myself laughing in the show and I am loving the relationship Tohru has with each Sohma member she meets. There was a love triangle that had me on edge. I wasn’t sure who was going to end up with who.
There are only 2 seasons on Hulu, but there will be a season 3. I am not sure when those episodes will be on Hulu but I will be anxiously waiting when this 3rd and final season when be available. This show was based off a Manga series, so you might want to check that out as well. If you have watched the series, what did you think?
