I have seen On My Block so much on my social media but that is not where I heard the most of it. The first person I heard it from was my sister. She saw it and immediately loved it. She had talked so highly about it so I added to my list on Netflix intending to watch it some time. I did not realize that my friends would pressure me into watching it a lot sooner than expected.
When I went on my most recent vacation, the subject of On My Block came up and everyone went crazy. I did not realize the love that these people had for this show. My sister and my friends were going on and on about the plot and characters and what they loved and what they didn’t. Seeing how much they loved this show, made me want to watch it and see what the hype was about.
I said I was going to have to watch this show when I get back. That wasn’t good enough for my friends. They said this show was too good to miss and they wanted to watch the first episode with me. Thank goodness I wasn’t the only one who would be watching this show for the first time. I had another friend lets call her New York friend. She only saw the first episode and we would be seeing the rest for the first time together.We decided on this vacation to have a girls night. Unfortunately, my sister had to cut her vacation a little short so she wasn’t able to attend.
So they put on the show, and I was expecting to like it because I heard good things but I knew I wasn’t going be obsessed like my friends were. As the first episode was ending, I didn’t realize how much I was into it until I said “keep playing, I need to know what happens next.” We only watched the first two episodes all together. Then me and my New York friend ended up watching the next six episodes together and we even got one of my friends little brother hooked on it. We were all glued to the TV when On My Block was on. So we had watched a total of eight episodes but there were two more left. On the way back home form my vacation, I watched the last two episodes on the train. I couldn’t help myself.
What happened after I watched the first season of this show? I really liked it actually. I didn’t love it like my other friends but I saw myself becoming emotionally invested in these characters lives. My favorite so far is Jamal because he is hilarious. I was mad about watching the show for one reason and that was the season finale. How are you going to make me enjoy watching this show for nine episodes and then give me a finale that breaks my heart. All I know is that season 2 can not come fast enough. I am ready to see the whole gang back together and find out what happens in the premiere.
