BlackAF: Not What I Thought

BlackAF is a new show by Kenya Barris and is currently on Netflix. I saw the trailer and I thought it was going to be pretty good. His previous shows like Grownish and Blackish I do enjoy. So, I decided to watch this one and see what it was like.

This show is a mockumentary and follows the life of Kenya Barris and his family. One of their daughters is doing a school project and decides to make a documentary to get into film school. She interviews her family and follows their daily lives. We see the good and some of the not so good of the family.

I watched the 1st episode and didn’t really like it. I didn’t want to judge it by 1 episode. Sometimes a show takes time to grow on you so I watched all 8 episodes. After watching all the episodes, I came to a conclusion. The show had some funny parts but overall it wasn’t that good to me. It was a bit slow and that is why I had a hard time getting through it in my opinion. It was surprising, because I thought I would enjoy it so much more. I do like Kenya Barris’s previous work but this wasn’t my cup of tea.

I saw a lot of mixed reviews online. Some people really liked it and thought it was funny. Other people hated it and thought it was terrible, but it really depends on the person. Maybe the humor wasn’t my type of humor, which could also be the case.

Blackaf is currently on Netflix if you wanted to give it a watch. It is 8 episodes long, so it wouldn’t take too much of your time if you wanted to watch. If you did see it, what did you think?
