I wanted to try out some shows from Apple TV and Defending Jacob was the first one I watched.
Defending Jacob is a crime drama. A 14 year old boy is murdered in the town and the top suspect is Jacob. Jacob is also 14 and is the son of the assistant district attorney who was in charge of this case. After the news breaks that Jacob is a suspect, his family’s life gets turned upside down.
In the show, we first see Jacob’s father Andy getting questioned. We aren’t quite sure what he is getting questioned about. While he is talking he reference past events about what happened before the murder and after Jacob was named a suspect. We see a lot of Andy’s perspective in his show and what he was thinking and going through.
Throughout the show we really see what this family has to deal with and go through. The whole town basically turns against them because their son was a suspect. Which, I understand because they think Jacob committed the crime. Within the family themselves, they are tested. Family secrets come out and their trust in each other begins to break. This does have you go through wondering who is responsible for the murder. The question I have after watching the show is, did Jacob do it?
I liked this show. I enjoyed watching it and seeing how everything unfolded. It was very emotional. You see how a family who is accused is affected in this show, rather than the victim’s family. I do feel when I finished it, I felt incomplete. It was an ok ending but I was wishing it was different or they gave me more. I really wish they show a perspective of what happened to Ben. Something where the audience knows but the characters don’t. That is something I would have enjoyed.
If you are looking for a crime show, then this is one you should try. This series is 8 episodes and it is on Apple TV if you want to try it out. If you have seen Defending Jacob, what do you think?
