Stranger Things 3 Recap: When You Thought it Couldn’t Get Any Better

I am warning you now that if you haven’t watched the show yet then you will want to stop reading. There will be spoilers ahead.

There were a lot of things going on in this season and each group of people were chasing a lead that all eventually lead to the same thing. The mind flayer. There were rabid rats that Nancy and Jonathan were following up on. There were evil Russians which the scoops troops (Dustin, Steve, Robin, and Erica )were following. Also Joyce and Hopper were following a different but similar Russian lead. Then we had Max, Eleven, Will, Lucas, and Mike following the lead of The Mind Flayer that eventually lead to Billy. And finally all these roads lead them to each other so that can destroy The Mind Flayer for good.

The Mind Flayer somehow was still in their dimension when the gate was closed. That brings up a whole new problem for the town of Hawkins this season. Instead of Will being the host, there is someone much darker that he decides to be his minion. It is Billy. Billy was a character that I didn’t like in the previous season. He was malicious and he could hide his danger with a pretty face. When he was chosen to be the host, I knew immediately that this was not going to be good. I think by being the host we do see more of him being vulnerable and more humanized than before. He is being controlled to do evil things that he doesn’t want to do. He wants help and for The Mind Flayer to get out of him.

The last scene that Billy was in definitely was a really sad one for me. I didn’t expect to care so much about his character, but he did one last heroic act knowing this would be the end for him. I didn’t expect that of his character. I expected him to mostly submit to what was controlling him but I was proved wrong. At the end he ended up saving eleven, and sacrificed his life. The look on Max’s face was what got me. In the previous season, they didn’t seem that close. He was mostly the bully and a terrible big brother. Max saying her last goodbyes her brother was one of the scenes that hit me harder than I expected it to.

We got to know some new characters this season, Erica & Robin. The Scoops Troop was one of my favorite dynamics. The 4 of them were an interesting bunch. I loved the little bit of Erica that we got from the previous season but this time we got a whole lot more and I enjoyed it. I also enjoyed the character of Robin. I loved the banter and friendship that her and Steve have.

The one scene that hit me the most was the one with Hopper and Joyce. Hopper knew that she had to blow up the gate to the upside down. Joyce wanted to wait till he was in a safe distance but Hopper knew he wasn’t going to make it. When he gave her that slight nod, I was like Noooo, Hopper Nooooo!!!! Then she blew up the gate, and he was gone. I wasn’t ready for that and definitely not expecting it. I think what got me the most was Eleven’s reaction and when she was reading the speech he wanted to tell her. That got hit me so hard that I couldn’t stop crying.

At the end of the show we see Joyce, Will, Jonathan, and Eleven all pack up their things and are moving out of Hawkins. Everyone is saying their goodbyes. This moment to me was also a bit sad. This is a new chapter in all their lives and I wonder what this will mean for their relationships in the future?

I thought that it couldn’t get better after season 2 but it did. I am really interested to see how they top this with a season 4. My biggest question is will they ever come back to Hawkins? What will be the new threat? Will Eleven get her powers back? And is Hopper really dead? These are the questions I have after watching the season. I didn’t include everything from season 3 because if I did it would be a book. Maybe I will do another post about season 3. There is so much that happened it is hard to fit it all in one. What did you think of season 3 and what questions do you have after seeing it? And as always The Show Must Go On.
