I was interested to watch Reservation Dogs ever since it was announced and I finally got around to it.
I definitely try to watch new things and something that was lacking was TV shows with Native American characters. Once I heard about this show, I definitely wanted to give it a watch.
This show follows a group of friends who are trying to get out of their town. They try a few things to save up money to move to California. That is where they think they need to go for their lives to be different. We find out early in the show that one of their friends never made it out. They are trying to get out for him since he couldn’t.
It did take me a bit to get into this show. I do feel like the pacing can be a bit slower. Once I got into it, I enjoyed it a lot more. The ending though. It hit me hard and was very emotional and I wasn’t expecting that.
This is a drama with elements of comedy in it as well. The comedy wasn’t my type so I think that was a major reason I didn’t get into it as much. I know there are people that would love this show and this type of comedy and really enjoy this show overall.
With this show, they were very intentional of who was on the screen and the behind the scenes. Almost the entire cast, writers, directors, and crew were Indigenous North Americans. I also believe this was one of the first shows to do that.
I would give this 3 out of 5 stars. It was an overall good show, it did take me a lil while to get into, but I did like it. I am not sure if I will watch season 2, but i won’t count it out. The 2nd season is currently airing on FX but you can watch the 1st season on Hulu.
If you have seen Reservation Dogs, what did you think? Also if you have any suggestions for any other TV shows with a Native American cast please leave them in the comments below.
