One of the shows I was most excited to see was The Witcher. I had seen so many trailers and articles about it before it even premiered. When I first saw the trailer, I was so excited. I had seen that this was being compared to Game of Thrones. I really liked Game of Thrones and that made me even more excited to see this show. So after all the excitement, I had to see what it was all about. While watching the show, my level of interest changed.
Before Watching The Show: My level of interest was so high. I was so happy when I new The Witcher was finally on Netflix. I got my blanket and I began to watch.
Starting the Show: After watching the first episode, I wasn’t as excited anymore. I think I set my exceptions so high and I think because of that I got disappointed. I expected it to be so epic like Game of Thrones and in my opinion it wasn’t like that.
Watching the Show: It was in the middle of the show. After I stopped comparing it to Game of Thrones, I started to enjoy it a lot more. Around this time, I was in the middle of the show and to me it was a little slow sometimes. I also was confused at some things while watching too. First was the timeline of the show. I didn’t realize that there were flashbacks till near the middle of the show. I was watching the Queen and I thought she was dead and then she is alive, I was like wait is this a flash back? I caught on and then that definitely changed how I was looking at the show. It was like a piece of the puzzle I was missing. Something else that took a while for me to get was the law of surprise. Eventually, I finally understood it and what it meant.
End of The Show: By the last episode, I was hype. I wanted to know if Geralt and Ciri would find one another. Also the huge war at the end, I was into it and Yennefer was killing it! This is when my interest level was at an all time high. When it finished, I knew I needed more. I was excited to see if a new season would be coming and to go on social media and see what other people were talking about. So by the time I finished the show, I was addicted.
After watching, I wanted to know what other people thought. When I went on social media, I saw some mix reactions. Some people really liked it others though it was ok. I really enjoyed it. I see many comparing it to Game of Thrones a lot. When I watched it, I can see how people would make that comparison but it didn’t really remind me of Game of Thrones. When I watched it, I got more of Lord of the Rings vibes. One thing I do have to commend this show on it the diversity. Honestly, many fantasy shows are not usually the most diverse when it comes to casting. Many people on twitter had the same thought and I am glad others agree.
My general opinion of the show is it was really good and worth a watch. If you enjoy fantasy shows, I would definitely give this a try. I also might check out the books as well. If you saw the show, did you enjoy it? Let me know in the comments below. And as always The Show Must Go On.
